The Met’s Leonardo Expert Says ‘Salvator Mundi’ Was Largely Painted by the Renaissance Master’s Assistant

Seems everyone is trying to put some distance between themselves and this painting and the latest is Carmen Bambach curator of drawings and prints at the Metropolitan Museum and a leading specialist in the field. She has gone on record as saying that most of Salvator Mundi was undertaken by the artist’s assistant, Giovanni Antonio Boltraffio and that Leonardo was only responsible for “small re-touchings”. That is a hideous downgrade for the worlds most expensive picture and must give the new owner some significant disquiet. Christies are standing by their man with the statement that a whole bunch of experts think it's a great picture!
